Summary[edit]

Description
English: Electrochemical element - a battery

Zinc and copper rods, in a solution of electrolyte (table salt, lemon juice) show a potential difference, due to dissolving the less noble metal. Upon dissolving, the metal (zinc) cations end in the solution, while the electrons travel through the conductor (LEDs in our case), from the zinc (–), to the copper (+):

Zn(s) → Zn2+(aq) + 2e (reaction of the negative electrode)

+ 2Н+(aq) = H2(g) (reaction of the positive electrode, Cu)

Performed by the retired Prof. PhD Vladimir Petruševski. The planning of the experiment also included the Prof. PhD Miha Bukleski and the students Mihail Trajkov and Darko Stojčev, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
