Summary[edit]

Description
English: Magic spoon – Wood’s alloy

- By melting of bismuth, thin, lead and cadmium in a certain ratio, an alloy called Wood’s alloy is obtained. This alloy has a melting temperature of 70 °С, that is remarkably lower than the melting temperature of its components separately (bismuth 272 °С, tin 232 °С, lead 327 °С and cadmium 321 °С). When a spoon made out of the alloy composed of these metals is placed in a cup with hot water, it melts very fast.

Planned and performed by Marina Stojanovska, Miha Bukleski and Vladimir Petruševski, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
