Внук Калиты, Димитрий Иоаннович, отличался прямым и отважным характером. Рядом войне силою духовного оружия Св. Сергия Радонежского возвысив могущество Московского великого княжества, обил Мамая на поле Куликовом, близ реки Дона. Пред решительной битвой молил Всевышнего даровать победу.
