- Shield: Azure, on a chevron rompu Or three mullets of the field within a bordure Argent.
- Crest: That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Tennessee Army National Guard: On a wreath of the colors Or and Azure, upon a mount Vert a hickory tree Proper charged with three mullets, one and two, Argent.
- Motto:FUSTEST WITH THE MOSTEST.
Symbolism[edit]
- Shield:
- The shield is blue for Infantry.
- The chevron rompu represents the “Breaking Through” of the Hindenburg Line during World War I.
- The three mullets (stars) symbolize the battle honors awarded the unit during World War I.
- Crest: The crest is that of the Tennessee Army National Guard.
- Background:
- The coat of arms was originally approved for the 278th Infantry Regiment on 1951-08-20.
- It was redesignated for the 278th Armored Infantry Battalion on 1955-06-30.
- The insignia was rescinded on 1960-12-29.
