Blazon[edit]

• Shield: Azure, on a chevron rompu Or three mullets of the field within a bordure Argent.

• Crest: That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Tennessee Army National Guard: On a wreath of the colors Or and Azure, upon a mount Vert a hickory tree Proper charged with three mullets, one and two, Argent.

• Motto:FUSTEST WITH THE MOSTEST.

Symbolism[edit]

• Shield:

1. The shield is blue for Infantry.
2. The chevron rompu represents the “Breaking Through” of the Hindenburg Line during World War I.
3. The three mullets (stars) symbolize the battle honors awarded the unit during World War I.

• Crest: The crest is that of the Tennessee Army National Guard.

• Background:

1. The coat of arms was originally approved for the 278th Infantry Regiment on 1951-08-20.
2. It was redesignated for the 278th Armored Infantry Battalion on 1955-06-30.
3. The insignia was rescinded on 1960-12-29.
