Summary[edit]

Description
English: The map shows the crime incidence rate against Dalits (Scheduled Castes, SCs) per 100,000 Dalits for states and union territories of India in 2012.

Crime rate in this map is the broadest definition of crime under Indian law. It includes murder, attempted murder, death by negligence, arson, kidnapping, injury, theft, robbery, rape, sexual harassment, riots, civil rights violation, crime of atrocity, and all other crimes listed in Indian Penal Code.

Data Source: Crime in India 2012 Statistics, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, Table 7.1, page 423.

The overall crime rate per 100,000, against all population, is from the same NCRB publication, Table 1.3, page 196.

To calculate the crime rate against Dalits, the total population of Dalit in the state or union territory was used by the data source. The crime rate for "all population" uses, instead, the total population of India.

The SVG code for disputed national borders in this map is a derivative work of File:India literacy rate map en.svg available on wikimedia commons.
