Summary[edit]

Description
  • Cu2[HgI4] ја менува бојата од црвена во темно кафеава на околу 70 °С;
  • Ag2[HgI4] ја менува бојата од жолта во црвена на околу 50 °C;

English: Demonstration of the phenomenon of discontinuous thermochromism. Thermochromism is a phenomenon where a substance reversibly changes its colour due to a change in temperature. Four substances that exhibit the property of discontinuous thermochromism are shown in this experiment. The colour change is sharp and is manifested at an exact temperature. Namely:
  • Cu2[HgI4] changes its colour from red to dark brown at around 70 °С;
  • Ag2[HgI4] changes its colour from yellow to red at around 50 °C;
  • [(CH3CH2)2NH2]2[CuCl4] changes its colour from green to brown at around 50 °С; and
  • [(CH3CH2)2NH2]2[NiCl4] changes its colour from yellow to blue at around 80 °С.
Planned and performed by Marina Stojanovska, Miha Bukleski and Vladimir Petruševski, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
