Description
English: This is a composite photograph comprising elements all of which were found and discovered by historian Richard Warren Lipack - which includes an original dated 1888 albumen photograph on card mount, imprinted with the photographer's name and location: "KUHNS' Photo. ATLANTA, GA." Photograph depicts the pharmacy storefront of "ASA G. CANDLER & CO. - 47 Peachtree Street - 1888" and is the original photograph from which a copy photograph had been made that appears as an illustration found on page 68 of the personal copy of the 1950 book ASA GRIGGS CANDLER. also shown in this composite photograph. This limited edition book was given to Charles Howard Candler, Jr. and is inscribed from "his Daddy - 9 - 1 - 1950" - the author Charles Howard Candler on the occasion of the book's publication by Emory University, Druid Hills, Georgia. Information was placed by Richard Warren Lipack electronically at Emory, documenting that the photograph illustrated in the 1950 Candler Emory published book is from a modern 20th century Kodak "Velox" copy taken from the original vintage only extant "1888 Asa G. Candler & Co." photograph discovered by Richard Warren Lipack. This data was placed in the vertical files / internal reference files of the Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library at Emory University by Research and Public Services Archivist Sara J. Logue. The Asa Griggs Candler papers and Candler Family papers are also maintained at Emory. Reference archivists at the Manuscript, Archives , and Rare Book Library at Emory University believe that the "1888 Asa G. Candler & Co." photograph discovered by Richard Warren Lipack to be the same one reproduced in Candler's son's 1950 tome.

Also shown in this composite photograph is a close-up of the signature page which shows the inked inscription to Charles Howard Candler, Jr. from his father and author Charles Howard Candler, together with a tipped-in original clipped signature of Asa Griggs Candler, the subject of the book. The 1888 photograph is the only extant original period example of this image and shows Coca-Cola Company founder Asa Griggs Candler together in the same photograph with the creator of the "Coca-Coca" formula: Dr. John Stith Pemberton. The photograph at one time was the property of Asa Griggs Candler, who commissioned the photographer KUHNS' of 33 1/2 Whitehall Street, Atlanta, Georgia, to record the historic scene.

Ownership by RICHARD WARREN LIPACK of the original "1888 Asa G. Candler & Co." albumen photograph is on record with the legal department of The Coca-Cola Company, Atlanta, Georgia.
