Español: Retrato del rey Alfonso XII de España (1857-1885). El rey aparece representado de cuerpo entero y con el uniforme de capitán general, acompañado por pantalón blanco y botas altas negras. Y luce además el Toisón de Oro y la banda y la placa de la Orden de Carlos III. Esta obra sigue el tipo de retrato oficial en que el pintor atiende no sólo a plasmar el aspecto físico del personaje, sino sobre todo a rodearle de aquellos elementos que simbolizan su rango. El monarca tenía veinte años de edad cuando se hizo esta obra, a pesar de que con el peinado que lleva aparenta aún más juventud. Eduardo Balaca presentó este retrato en la Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes de 1878, aunque sin obtener recompensa alguna.
