Description
English: Graphite is the stable allotropic modification of carbon. To enable its burning in an atmosphere of O2, it is necessary to heat it to red hot. After the heated piece of graphite is placed into the chamber filled with O2, it is observed that the graphite continues to glow, unlike the result in air. The chemical equation of this reaction is:
С(ѕ) + O2(g) = CO2(g)

The carbon dioxide formed is poorly soluble in water and as a result, the pH value of the medium does not change as significantly as in the case of phosphorus burning and sulfur burning. Therefore, it takes longer to notice the color change of the phenolphthalein alkaline solution.

The experiment was performed by Prof. PhD Miha Bukleski. The planning of the experiment also included the Prof. Emeritus PhD Vladimir Petruševski, Prof. PhD Marina Stojanovska and the student Mihail Trajkov, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
Македонски: Графитот е стабилната алотропска модификација на јаглеродот. За да се овозможи негово горење на атмосфера од O2, потребно е првин добро да се зажари. Откако зажареното парче графит ќе се внесе во комората со O2, се забележува дека графитот останува зажарен, што не е случај доколку истава реакција се изведува на атмосфера од воздух. Равенката на оваа реакција е:
С(ѕ) + O2(g) = CO2(g)

Образуваниот јаглерод диоксид е слабо растворив во вода и како резултат на тоа, рН вредноста на средината не се менува толку значително како во случајот со горење на фосфор и горење на сулфур. Затоа, потребно е подолго време да се забележи промената на бојата на базниот раствор од фенолфталеин.

Експериментот е изведен од проф. Миха Буклески. Во планирањето на опитот исто така биле вклучени пензионираниот проф. д-р Владимир Петрушевски, проф. д-р Марија Стојановска и студентот Михаил Трајков, Институт за хемија, ПМФ, УКИМ, Скопје, Македонија.
