Summary[edit]

Description
English: Space-fill drawing of the 2-subunit Cu,Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD) molecule. This enzyme protects cells against damage by the highly reactive superoxide radical (a by-product of normal oxygen metabolism) by changing alternate superoxides into oxygen or into hydrogen peroxide. Drawn by David Goodsell from PDB file 2SOD.
