Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Damselfly nymphs develop in water bodies, they are insatiable predators, feed on various crustaceans and larvae of other insects. They spend hours waiting for their prey on aquatic plants or the bottom. Of particular interest is the method of capturing the victim. For this, the nymph has something like a retractable jaw, which is called a mask. The mask is a modified lower lip, it is equipped with a joint and is able to fold and hide under the head. When the prey is within reach, the nymph throws the mask forward and grabs it with hooks. Then, folding the mask, brings the prey to the mouth and eats jaws.
English: The larva of the damselfly eats the larva of the mosquito. Microscope biomed 4 pr, Polarized light.
