Українська: Stentor coeruleus - вид інфузорій сімейства Stentoridae. Інфузорії великі, розміром 500 - 2000 мікрон. Мають характерний синьо-зелений відтінок, обумовлений пігментом під назвою стенторін. Пігмент виконує захисну і фоторецепторну функції. Стенторін токсичний для інших інфузорій. У разі нападу хижака Стентор здатний видавлювати з себе пігмент, таким чином відлякуючи ворога. У раціон цієї інфузорії входять бактерії, одноклітинні водорості, найпростіші та навіть коловратки. Мешкає в прісноводних, стоячих водоймах
English: Stentor coeruleus is a species of ciliate in the family Stentoridae. Infusoria large, size 500 - 2000 microns. They have a characteristic blue-green hue due to a pigment called stentorin. The pigment performs protective and photoreceptor functions. Stentorin is toxic to other ciliates. In the event of a predator attack, the stentor is able to squeeze the pigment out of itself, thus scaring off the enemy.
