Istarted before the sun was up, the sky clearand bright, and the sharp morning air ex-hilarating for active exercise. No wheeledvehicle did we see of any description on thewhole journey. Turning to the left, we lollowed a bridlepath, which skirted the shore of a beautifulbay, dotted with small island3 and fishingboats, and named after the Mississippi, oneof the first American men-of-war that vis-ited Japan.
