Data talk:Completely indexed painting collections.tab

Some guidelines for this list:

  • Please keep it sorted by date (newly indexed collections at the bottom).
  • collection_qid is just the Qid of the collection as used by collection (P195) on Wikidata.
  • collection_name is the common name in English without "The" and probably matches a category name here.
  • count is the amount of paintings in the collection, can be updated over time when the institution acquires more works. Just to get an idea how big the collection is.
  • date is the moment when it was first completely indexed on Wikidata. Of course collections increase over time so it's probably not the last time it was indexed.
  • category is the painting category here on Commons

I'm still expanding based on d:Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Property statistics. The intention of this list is to use it in {{Artwork}} to easily track paintings without a Wikidata item for which it's extremely likely that an item for the painting actually exists on Wikidata. About National Museum in Kraków[edit]

@Multichill: Something is not right with completeness of National Museum in Kraków. I was looking at adding wikidata IDs to Category:Paintings by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz in the National Museum in Kraków, and all the items were missing. Same thing with bunch of other paintings. Some of them I can find in one "official" website others in a different "official" website, so it seems to me that they do not have everything online yet. Can we remove this museum from the "Completely indexed" list? --Jarekt (talk) 00:19, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jarekt: according to d:Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Property statistics we have about 2300 paintings from that collection.
Are you sure these paintings are actually part of their permanent collection? Not loans, sold, part of some exhibition or just museums that are mixed up? If that's not the case, any idea why it's missing? Any guess about the percentage of missing paintings? Only 175 left to match. Multichill (talk) 21:27, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Multichill: I can only offer anecdotal evidence, and no collection-wide stats:
--Jarekt (talk) 00:22, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jarekt: The first case is quite odd. Maybe contact the museum for clarification?
Second case is much easier: It isn't listed as a painting on the museum website so I didn't import it. pastel (Q12043905) has the same issue as watercolor painting (Q18761202): Sometimes it ends up with the drawings and sometimes with the paintings. Ah, that makes sense. A lot of artworks by this artist look like paintings, but night be drawings. I am trying to organize artworks by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz at the moment and do not draw distinction between paintings and non-paintings, but you are concentrating on paintings. I was lately working with Witkiewicz artworks from Museum of Middle Pomerania in Słupsk (Q4801420) and they seem to have very bad online catalog of their holdings, more like bunch of partial abandoned attempts. National Museum in Kraków also seem to have 2 websites with little overlap in artworks, so I guess institutions in Poland are a bit behind in organizing their collections. --Jarekt (talk) 15:04, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
