Custom clocks and watches

I (User:Quiddity) want to encourage the creation of custom watch/clock face designs. Both Wikimedia-related designs, and everything else. There's an active modding community, but I couldn't find any great open resources for face/dial design.

SVG for hacking

I've made an SVG with multiple layers that can be somewhat easily tweaked and hacked. See File Description for instructions on altering it. See #Inspiration below for various image searches/collections.

Wikimedia design ?!

Attempt #1, the design preview vs the printed watch

Attempt #2 at File:Custom-watch-clock-face-dial-wiki-attempt1.png. This version used the PDF file, and came out a bit bolder, but I used a smaller watch case, and they printed it ever so slightly off-alignment (counter-clockwise by a degree or so), so it's still not perfect.

I've wanted this in particular, for a while. Perhaps instead anyone who is interested can compete with personal designs?! :D

I made a first attempt, just using the commercial Zazzle site. I think I screwed up by giving them a large PNG file, which is probably why the printing came out looking faded. They're giving me a refund though, so I will try again, with PDF. (They don't accept SVG)

2. Improve or overhaul the generic SVG template! (I have minimal graphic skills, and this was the first time I've used Inkscape extensively)
3. Tell me where this page could be better located in a mainspace (Commons? Meta? other?) so that others feel more welcome to boldly collaborate on improving any of it.
