Healthy, Inclusive Communities[edit]

What impact would we have on the world if we follow this theme?[edit]

we could be a repository for images around the world, and model how to show good metadata scholarship. Slowking4 § Sander.v.Ginkel's revenge

How important is this theme relative to the other 4 themes? Why?[edit]

most important - culture eats strategy for breakfast. without a healthy community, you will not be able to implement other goals. Slowking4 § Sander.v.Ginkel's revenge

Focus requires tradeoffs. If we increase our effort in this area in the next 15 years, is there anything we’re doing today that we would need to stop doing?[edit]

we will have to give up being right all the time; we will have to give up biting people in an unhealthy way; we will have to give up exclusivity of "not invented here club". we will have to give up prioritizing vandal fighting and copyright wars. Slowking4 § Sander.v.Ginkel's revenge
There are only limited posibilities of steering the tradeoffs. First and foremost the contributers have to have an interest in the subjects. I have no problems if some, for me ´trivial´ subjects are are expanded, if they are well maintained and there is some verification from other authors and correctly sourced. No harm is done and it keeps contributors motivated. They mostly also work on other mainstream subjects.Smiley.toerist (talk) 22:31, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What else is important to add to this theme to make it stronger?[edit]

a code of conduct; a standard of practice. Slowking4 § Sander.v.Ginkel's revenge

Who else will be working in this area and how might we partner with them?[edit]

The Augmented Age[edit]

What impact would we have on the world if we follow this theme?[edit]

New contributors and volunteers will mostly come from young teenagers and youngers. They can bring impressions of new knowledge and information surrounding their lives to our community, which can be seen as fresh blood with full of nutrients, benefitting our organization's sustainability. Meanwhile, local problems and conflicts can also be reflected out from their voices in time. With collected knowledge in various fields, the reasons and impacts of problems can be identified and analysed, which contributes to their problems' solutions. If our voices with the supports of reasonable knowledge can be assembled to a sea of our own, our expressions can be heard one day, which will contribute to the sustainability of globalized civilization in many channels. May it be that world can be changed beautiful than our imagine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jason M. C., Han (talk • contribs) 12:31, 15 May 2017 (UTC) Jason M. Before making it augmented, we should make it broad in both thought and action as I see MAXIMUM UTILIZTION IN SMALLER SCALE WILL LEAD TO GROWTH OF HUMANITY GROWTH INDEX (HGI) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Samvidsharma (talk • contribs) 11:51, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am an editor who is not a geek or an IT professional (if they are not synonymous!). The site is not user-friendly to edit. One has to really knows what each item in the left menu column leads to, or be willing (as I am) to create a 10-page cheat sheet with tags and codes and what to do with them. Even so, I know I am not very efficient as an editor or cataloguer of images. PLEASE, hire a graphic designer who understands how non-geek users who want to edit interact with a page. What buttons do they need? What is their workflow and how does their interaction with the page change during the workflow? What can be graphically presented that is currently verbally presented. Then redesign the interaction with the site. Honestly, I believe that once the current generation of English-speaking IT professionals with adequate downtime to edit dies off, Wikimedia will face a huge shortage of free labor and wither. The barrier to participation is just too high. Downtowngal (talk) 02:23, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • It seems to me that there is an important connection between this theme and "The Augmented Age" theme, namely with regards to multi-language unification. Wikipedia has a large collection of articles on the same or similar topics in numerous languages. As the technology of machine translation and understanding progresses it may well be possible to automatically compare those articles and provide tools that would allow volunteers who do not share a common language to collaborate in developing a consensus interlingual article. That meta-article might then be translated into (ideally) all the world's active languages. In turn Wikipedia's corpus of similar articles in multiple languages might be a useful resource in developing the necessary computational tools. Volunteers editing in language X could have their edits be reflected in all other languages, perhaps with some interface mechanism to distinguish between improvements in wording specific to language X from factual corrections that should be propagated to other language versions. The wording corrections, in turn might be then inform the language transition tools. Machine translation of sources would also be important, allowing inter-language verifiability. The ultimate goal would be for everyone in the planet to have access to a common corpus of knowledge in a language they can understand. Of course there would be many difficulties besides the technological ones, for example, what is neutral to speakers of one language may be highly contentious to another group of speakers. But we face similar problems within single language Wikipedias now.--agr (talk) 15:10, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks to agr's first point. Firstly, with many similarities, I also think it is quite useful to borrow multi-lingual approach and inter-translation approach from "The Augmented Age" theme, for

(1)identifying many similar articles (also some contents of projects) but from different languages, and (2)summarizing those relevant points into a comprehensive one, then (3) opening multiple-channels from core one to meet different commons' reading habits.

Here, I would like to point out another idea: I think linking our globalized movements with some governments or organizations' practical politics and strategies, or world's main tendencies of development can also make our jobs much easier and ourselves much stronger. Take an example, currently, we knew Belt & Road Initiative and Belt & Road forum were opened widely for many countries' discussions from Asia (East End), throughout West Asia & North Africa & Middle east to Europe (West End) (Wikipedia Introductions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Initiative; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Forum; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_Road). Many developing countries' infrastructures are under constructions, including internet, which demanded many supports from knowledge, information and education. If seeing the map, we will find many areas were underserved, which were included into our own developing plans and strategies. Therefore, I think we can attempt to take some 'high rails' like this one and contribute some peaceful Win-Win services of our own. You know, after many infrastructures are going to be constructed including internet, there must will be some opportunities for 'software's' in-set, supported by some fields of knowledge such as archaeology, histories, fine arts, education and advanced sciences, which our knowledge-bank, articles, projects, activities, researches, course-plans can give many supports. Oppositely, our endeavors can also make Silk road recover 'Golden brilliant' among many civilizations - let them know how they do will make their own 'Golden fashions' much beautiful and peaceful on our earth. It is just one possible example which would make this theme stronger (not so hard for our local volunteers, I thought). We can also think more. In conclusion, taking some 'high rails' supported by world's main developing tendencies and local demands would contribute to our theme's modification, perfection and practice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jason M. Books[edit]

In my opinion , though an ocean of smart gadgets have been introduced to make "learning" an easier and a friendly process , still a "Book" has its own importance . Exposure to good books can change humanity at an individualistic level .

Relative to other modes of knowledge ,like from phones , computers etc.(via. Internet) ,it is less distracting in many respects .

I wouldn't call it "the most important" of the 5 topics , but i chose this as i was able to relate to this topic easily relative to the rest of them.

It's beyond doubt to tell that if books read per person increased (constantly or accelerated ) ,the world will definitely turn to a better place . 15 years of practicing this will turn the lands to heaven .

In the end ,what matters the most is the kind of books one chooses to read . Books on science , self - explorations , etc. should be inculcated in to people right from their childhood . This will add humongously in the individual's character and personality right from an intrapersonal level . Maneesh15cool (talk) 19:43, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
