Proper guidelines and instructions needed[edit]

Hello! Last year, i got into WLM 12 quite late. And sorry to point out this, but i understood nothing. There were no clear guidelines of how to submit, what to submit and when to submit. Basic thing of what exactly is a "monument" in context with this competition was not clear. Is any building or architectural work qualified? Maybe it is written somewhere, but then it surely isn't in the right place. Also i felt that judging was haphazard, where failed, nominated, successful entries were not separated out properly. I would hence request all volunteers to communicate openly. I would propose this page itself as a venue for all discussions. Other major points finalized after discussions over here can also be conveyed through a mailing list to other volunteers.

I can not think of all the things that will be needed to be organized, but hey, i can very well copy paste. :) Thanks to the Tunisia Workgroup

To do
  • communicate the plans through WikiProjects (en wiki, hi wiki, ml wiki, bn wiki, etc.) and Social Media (facebook, twitter, etc.)
  • create the list of monuments.
  • set up a helpdesk specific for India project, just a simple page where question can be asked and answered, nothing fancy. But the link to this page should be published at prominent pages.
  • publish a timeline with tasks to be done and people taking care
  • contact photography and heritage organizations to potentially partner (Aaa...Is that possible?)
  • define contest prizes (Is Wikimedia India Chapter interested in this?)
  • recruit a jury of at least 3 people (Wikimedians, professional photographers, heritage experts, etc.)
  • set up a national contest website containing:
    • contest presentation
    • rules (fitting with the international requirements)
    • prizes
    • members of jury
    • FAQs
    • contact information
    • how to find a monument
    • how to participate
  • organize an award ceremony
  • create a contest template to mark pictures in Commons (+ monument template including an identifier of each monument if available)
  • create corresponding categories in Commons

Many more things i suppose. Buckle up everyone! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:27, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting this up.
  • I hope communicating the plan happens naturally. If you think we need to take specific efforts to communicate it on WikiProjects, I don't think it would be difficult to be set it up.
  • The list of monuments is defined in India as per Act and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. This list has already been put up on Wikipedia.

Yes sure! Communicating to other Projects isn't a big deal. When does the competition officially start? Or are all images uploaded from January 1, 2013 eligible already? And thanks for the link. That link is very good and should be prominently highlighted as only these monuments are eligible. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 09:31, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Images uploaded in September. Before that we need to geographically map the monuments and put some spotlight on monuments close to where Wikipedians live. Improve articles and media on the monument (which I think is a desirable side-effect). Prad2609 (talk) 14:35, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
