Local organizers[edit]

Hello, I am just asking if the local organizers are obliged to follow the international timeline of if they can develop their own basing on the context of their operations . thanks ...happy festive seasons. Ndahiro derrick (talk) 07:53, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Ndahiro derrick, Thank you for your question and sorry for the late reply, yes are obliged because you need to make enough room for capturing images and upload them. However, if you wish to adjust the timelines you need to ensure that you have enough time to upload good number of images by the deadline of 28th February,2021. Best Joy Agyepong (talk)

How do i get confirmation that my photos were received and are being reviewed by the contest? Any link that goes directly to the current photos? Please let me know — Preceding unsigned comment added by Allstyles (talk • contribs) 13:31, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Additional local subcontests[edit]

Hi international team. As a local organizer in Italy, WikiDonne is discussing to set also a local jury and to have an additional prize (a subcontest of the main Wiki Loves Folklore) related to Folklore in Italy/Women in Folklore, on the model of Wiki Loves Monuments for example. Can this create some overlaps or issues with the main contest? Thank you, --Camelia (talk) 16:06, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Camelia did you get an answer on this? Are you doing it? I would also be interested if that is an option for my region. Best --Zblace (talk) 19:39, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Zblace: Yes, but in order to not change/contort the "sense" of the international contest in Commons (which are countries), we are running a subcontest based on our territory (Italy), not on gender. For reduce the gender gap, we organized a parallel contest in Wikipedia, where we gave an additional point if the article is a female or LGBTQ biography, or is related to minorities and underrepresented groups. --Camelia (talk) 20:19, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Classical art is not Folklore[edit]

Last year some classical art forms have been considered for the contest. For example this one. This is a classical dance form of India. Generally Classical art forms like that dance are not considered as Folklore. So, please make sure that all final entries are exactly belonging to Folklore with the help of experts world wide. Hope you take it seriously.-- Shagil Kannur (talk) 03:30, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded[edit]

Bharatnatyam and other classical dances of India (there are 8), Indian classical music which is supported by a rich literary tradition cannot be classified as "folk art". Folk does not mean "non-western". It means the popular traditional art not belonging to a scholarly or literary tradition. Classical Indian music and dance are the earliest systematic art forms in the whole world, and here they are being categorized as folk. Puts a big question on the community and the sanity of this contest — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 121.200.58.84 (talk) 12:46, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Joy Agyepong, I am sorry to say that your concepts about Bharathanatyam is wrong. Please note that it is not included in this list. And i request you to watch this page on Bharathanatyam. I am living in a State where this dance form is very popular. I have been trying to learn something about this dance form for many years. So, I have no confusion about Bharathanatyam as you thought. It is, indeed, a classical dance form and not a folk dance. Thank you. --Shagil Kannur (talk) 08:27, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
