Commons talk:Quality images/Subject/Animals

If I want to use any of theese pictures in a magazine, what shall I do, I could hardly print a long document under the picture. Please help me I´m lost here.

Some pictures require you acknowledge the author, some don't. I'm not sure all of the details on the licenses, you'll have to read them. Some of these are public domain so you're free to use them as you please, others require you to simply cite the source and some require you to publish any derivative work under the same license. If a license (eg GFDL) does not suit your way of publishing, you can always negotiate with the author about a more suitable license just for your purpose - notification that you are publishing their image is often appreciated by the authors anyway. --Tony Wills 22:08, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I put Anthropods in a gallery of their own (I'm not sure if I chose the best gallery name - should it be '...Subject/Animals/Anthropods' or is what I chose ok?) and tried to at least put pictures of the same species together - but it would be good to order them systematically.

In my opinion, these galleries help to see what QI-images already exist and perhaps to have that in mind when proposing images as QI (as example I think it's not really necessary to look for more gull pictures ;->) as well as looking if QI-pictures are used in galleries/wikis --Anna reg 19:27, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I've got some problems with the last changes from Dschwen:

• in the moment, Mammals are simply missing as the links aren't working
• I thought to not delete all images on the main page but to let some (between 4 to 8?) in the main gallery, so that everybody knows what to find under eg. 'Anthropods' (like the gallery Animals on QI shows some mammals, birds,...) The other possibility I see would be to make direkt links to anthropods, birds, mammals and other from the main page
• I think the seperation of mammals on different pages (Mammals wild, Mammals zoo and Mammals domesticated) is a bit difficult as it's not a clean division (I wouldn't be sure where to look for an image of a Lama - could be wild, domesticated or in the zoo)

I don't think the solution on FP is ideal, but they still have one telling picture on Animals for the individual galleries...
