Is it really a good idea to display these comment before the contest is over? I do Not see much point of using a complex system with secret voting, if some of the votes are displayed before the voting is closed. /Ö 12:30, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many people do not comment. I looked early on and only like 1/4 had commented. I don't know if the percentage is going up now. pfctdayelise (说什么?) 12:44, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I may have misunderstood the reason for using special voting software. I thought it was so that users would vote for the image they really think is best, without being influenced by the number of votes (number of votes might give som information about this) or the comments on the pictures. If that is not the reason, could not a on-wiki vote similar to COM:FPC have been used? /Ö 13:55, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The main reason for using special voting software was to simplify administration. With this there was no double-checking a user was eligible, checking they referenced their main account correctly, checking they didn't vote twice, checking they didn't accidentally delete someone else's votes when they voted, or manual counting of votes. Vote administration is really difficult and painful if you only use a wiki page.
660 people voted in round 1. I am not able to imagine how 660 people could take part in a FPC-style process...
It happened that we didn't consider very well beforehand, about how public or private the results would be, or how they would be accessible during the competition. Yes, this was a silly mistake...this is definitely something we will consider for the next time. If people want a totally open voting process, as in you can see anyone's votes at any time, then that is entirely possible.
The best place to leave comments for next year is here: Commons talk:Picture of the Year/2007 They should have a better chance of being found. :) --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 14:27, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
