This is a series of steps involved in the local manufacture of palm oil in rural Nigeria

The process begins with the harvesting of ripe fruits from a palm tree

Ripe fruits are gathered and spread out in the open

Ripe palm fruits undergoing a selection process to improve quality of the final product

Selected fruits are then cooked using locally made pots and drums over an open fire

Cooked fruits are further inspected for the next stage of fleshing

Fleshing is done using a locally made mortar and pestle manually operated

Stripped off palm fruit flesh is wrapped into locally made bags ready for pressing

The bag of stripped palm fruit flesh is hung out using a crude press device to drain out the oil

The oil is then transferred into jerrycans and moved to storage.
