My experience as a first-time uploader

Transperth bus stop 11207 and bus 1670. My first upload.

As a long-time Commons contributor, but first-time uploader, I made some notes on the Upload Wizard.

In the headings, the numbers are not aligned correctly.

The "Learn" screen is all about copyright, and even here, it misses a key point: the rights granted are irrevocable. It says nothing about scope; it also says nothing about privacy or personality rights (except where it says "public figures and people photographed in public places" are permitted). Note that these links are mine; the upload wizard provides only a link to the Help desk.

Uploading files is a bit tricky, because when dragging files onto the upload screen, they must be dropped onto a small target. Dropping them elsewhere causes the browser to navigate away from the upload wizard. Also, it keeps saying:

There was an error in your submission

You are already uploading the file '[filename]'.

Buried at the bottom of a long "Describe" screen is this weird notice:

License for captions contributions only (this applies to caption text, NOT the file)

By clicking 'publish', you agree to the terms of use, and you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the Creative Commons CC0 License.

At least it is weird to anyone not familiar with copyright. It wasn't on the "Learn" screen, nor on the "Release rights" screen (which recommended CC BY-SA 4.0 over CC0). And CC0 is not a "license"; it is a public domain dedication (though the linked deed has a link to "use the license for your own material", so it looks like everyone has problems with this).

The "Add data" screen does not make it clear that this is optional, except for the "Skip this step" button at the bottom. It is confusing, as SDC always is, and makes things even more confusing by displaying the full filename (including extension and underscores). It also has the same weird CC0 notice as quoted above.

For the file I uploaded, it gets weirder: there are specific categories for the bus and bus stop, but apparently no corresponding Wikidata items; on the other hand, there is a Wikidata item for the Transperth fare zone, but apparently no corresponding Commons category.
