The Mary Rose was a carrack-type of the English Tudor navy of King Henry VIII. Built in 1509-1510, it was sunk during a battle with the a French fleet in July 1545. The wreck of the Mary Rose was rediscovered in 1971 and salvaged in 1982, in one of the most complex and expensive projects in the history of maritime archaeology. The operation was organised by the Mary Rose Trust, a Portsmouth-based charity whose aim is to "preserve, display and spread knowledge about the Mary Rose".
Presentation[edit]
In January 2010, the Mary Rose Trust released fifty-seven pictures under a free license. Two of these pictures were taken during the final part of the salvage operation in 1982. The rest of the images show artefacts from the XVIth century, such as tools, weapons, or personal items.
It was the first such donation of by a UK based organisation.
