In 2015 and 2016, Leiden University Library and KITLV/Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies donated in total 5574 high resolution mainly nineteenth and early twentieth century photographs and works of art to Wikimedia Commons in a partnership with Wikimedia.[1][2][3]

Leiden University Library, which presently manages the source image database media-kitlv.nl, has made this donation possible in practice. The uploads were performed by Hansmuller/Hans Muller using the GLAMwiki Toolset software. Meursault2004/Revo Soekatno kindly provided translations in Bahasa Indonesia for the captions of the 1600 or so images related to Indonesia in the 2015 donation. English translations and some corrections of the captions and other metadata were added.
