Welcome to the Commons Weekly, a weekly paper by the Commons editors for the Commons editors.

Going through Commons I found many changes and things going on that had to be reported by someone at some place so that all editors can see all the happenings. This page is intended as an update about significant changes in Commons concerning improvements in guidelines, templates, policies, translations and uploads. It is merely a village pump tabloid displaying community news. The page, as the name suggests, would be updated on a weekly basis.

Commons[edit]

  • This week we've got a major improvement of the Scanning help page, which can be seen as a diff here:[1]. User:Adam Cuerden has updated the info to comply with the new upload limits, include info about Tiff vs. PNG as scanning medias and general advice and improvements for scanning.
  • The Commons:File types page has also been significantly improved to display information on the newly allowed Tiff format. It explains when to use it and why it has been allowed on Commons. User:Adam Cuerden has also taken care of most of the improvements, [2]
  • Commons:Batch uploading has also been recently created to be a central place for discussions regarding batch uploads of free content available over the web.

Translations[edit]

As a multilingual repository we have the obligation to translate our templates and pages to more than one language. This week we have two contributors who have worked significantly to fulfill this obligation: User:ערן and User:Putnik, who translated templates to Hebrew and Russian respectively. The following are the Users who have translated multiple templates this week.

New Templates[edit]

A new polling template and a new license template are the highlights of the week. The confused templates is rather amusing and funny.
