SVG

I've uploaded two SVG images, because I wanted to use them in an article: Image:Nuvola-fs-blockdev.svg and Image:Nuvola-fs-chardev.svg. I didn't realize how large they were however. I think it would be a good idea to gzip them and upload them as SVGZ (provided it is supported by the software...).—Kbolino 01:44, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

As far as I know, SVGZ is not supported. I guess processor speed is more expensive than disk space. Anyway, 36KB for Image:Nuvola-fs-blockdev.svg is hardly huge, given that a JPG photo can easily be 1 MB. User:dbenbenn 08:02, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

The problem is: The SVGs contain JPEG thumbnails(?) hidden in the metadata section. This increases file sizes significantly. Removing them -- and other superfluous header data -- would shrink each file by more than 16k.

Furthermore, the width and height attributes should be much larger. Maybe someone can achieve this via script. --Pumbaa 20:57, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

I'd not call all other metadata "superfluous" (unless we're talking about duplicate values or similar nonsense), but eliminating embedded thumbnails would certainly be a good thing. reverting files to original style

User:SiBr4 and probably others have overwritten several Nuvola icons, in order to "update" them to a different style. This even resulted in edit wars like here, and SiBr4 didn't seem to understand why people want to keep David Vignoni's original files. Therefore I would like to explain the rationale here—and revert those files once again, all of them.

The "why" should be pretty obvious: The filename says "Nuvola". It's an icon theme that follows a specific characteristic style, and coloring is an essential aspect of that. Nuvola is what used to give Linux desktops that distinguished jazzy look with various bright and saturated colors all over. Dulling those colors destroy exactly that. We don't care what the official colors of Italy are. This here should be Nuvola style, not official Italy or some other style. It's about this thing called artistic freedom. Calling your stuff "Nuvola" is wrong, maybe even violating the content license.

So, SiBr4, we value those files you contributed. Just please don't overwrite someone else's files with them, and refrain from calling them "Nuvola".--Reseletti (talk) 18:12, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

+1 Absolutely, he overwrites all the (4) original styled (SVG) flag files. If he prefer his "own" style (Nuvola 2.0+?), he/we should upload it to a new file. But SiBr4 is partially right, the SVG version of the double flag File:Nuvola apps locale.svg was amateurish, as you can't just flip the flag without correcting the glare and shadow to the right side. @Reseletti: PS: Here seems to be a hopeless mess, hardly any explanation.
