Merge categories (a.k.a. Deal with redirects)

I posted in the Village Pump discussion that we should move here. The relevant comment from there (by me) is:

Category:Male cameltoes redirects to Category:Mooseknuckles with slits, which is in Category:Mooseknuckles, but Category talk:Mooseknuckles redirects to Category talk:Male cameltoes (which, of course, contains a question about merging these categories). What the heck is going on? And why are we using what the English Wiktionary describes as a slang term to begin with?
