I don't think there's a rule concerning whether domesticated animals should be catted under Animals or Mammals, but it's a common practise to not cat the domesticated animals under Mammals. Only the United Kindom animal cats and related seem to be guarded by a group with conflicting ideas. I was originally instructed to cat under Animals in an edit summary, so it's near impossible for me to find it anymore, and I've gotten this "where's the rule" question more than once, so I'd be glad if, in the case you don't agree, we could take this to a broader audience to discuss properly.
