Category name[edit]

@Cnbrb @Y2hyaXM @RandomUserGuy1738 @W.carter @‎Clindberg While we definitely need a subcategory to dump all the pictures of people talking about the bridge collapse, I'm not sure this is the best title. I don't think it's useful to lump all the meetings/briefings together with actual recovery operations like File:Survey boat Catlett crew assists in recovery operations after the Key Bridge Collapse (240326-A-SE916-1893).jpg. Hopefully we'll get more media of actual salvage/recovery efforts as time goes on as well. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 18:56, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We could perhaps start by untangling these meetings, rescue efforts and whatnots by subcategorize this category by date. That would give us some order and it would also create a good timeline for the whole operation. Call them something neutral and a bit abbreviated like for example: 'Category:26 March 2024 Francis Scott Key Bridge operations', 'Category:27 March 2024 Francis Scott Key Bridge operations', etc. Just a suggestion. We usually divvy up disaster aftermaths by some sort of location (see Katrina, 9/11, etc), but there is also the example of how Notre-Dame was subcat-ed with dates. --Cart (talk) 20:13, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A general category named something like "Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse press conferences" might be better than making individual categories for every press conference Y2hyaXM (talk) 20:17, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved most of the "people talking" images into Category:Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse meetings, briefings, and press conferences. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:18, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - yes I hesitated on the name but just wanted something to get started. I'm open to it being changed - mainly I just wanted to filter out the large numbers of photos of guys on boats and at press conferences from the actual bridge photos. I took a lead from the subcats of Category:I-35W Mississippi River Bridge collapse - maybe "aftermath", "investigations".....? No strong opinion here. Cnbrb (talk) 21:01, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
'Aftermath' sounds better than 'recovery' to me, a good umbrella word, and that is a word that is used in many disaster categories. Btw, thanks for getting started on sorting this out. We are getting an unusually big load of free-licensed photos with this, due to the organizations involved. --Cart (talk) 21:06, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you - I know how Commons categorisation can get chaotically overlooked! Just thought I'd get the topic off to a good start. Glad it helped. Cnbrb (talk) 15:56, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Category:I-35W Mississippi River Bridge collapse has subcategories for "investigation" (which is what the NTSB would be doing, not helping with the recovery, so those files could move over there), "rescue efforts", and "recovery" . The initial Coast Guard stuff was probably more in the rescue efforts, with recovery stuff more going forward from today. That does split up an "aftermath" category a bit more specifically, so I don't mind those. The "investigation" vs "recovery" can have different parent cats, the way the I-35 categories do, which would seem to be more topical than a general "aftermath" category. If we need dated subcats of those once split up, we could see, but those do make some sense to me. We could do dated sub-cats but that pattern won't hold too much longer, as developments (and new files to upload) will slow down a lot. I don't have a really strong opinion though, so whatever makes the most sense. Splitting out the "investigation" stuff from the NTSB at a minimum would make the most sense to me though. Unrelated, but I'll just leave this here: User:AntiCompositeNumber/Key Bridge identification guide AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 00:43, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
