This should be categorized under "Education in Detroit", not "Schools in Detroit"
[edit]@Blackcat: , User:Closeapple correctly pointed out that "Education in Detroit" is the proper parent category here, because "Detroit Public Schools" is the en:school district (government agency operating schools). School district-related pictures are not only schools. They may also be:
- District-issued equipment
- Vehicles operated by the district (school buses, maintenance vehicles, etc)
- District personnel (superintendents, etc.)
- District administrative buildings (Fisher Building is the district's headquarters)
This is not overcategorization; it is proper categorization. I understand this concept is not in Italy (as school districts like in the US do not exist there), but please understand that this is how American school districts need to be categorized.
I must also remind you that the articles need the seemingly-redundant "interwiki" links as this makes them text-searchable in other languages. If a Spanish speaker puts in "Escuelas Públicas de Detroit" he/she ought to get this page. Removing these descriptions interferes with the Commons' mission of being international and cross-language. - @WhisperToMe: , actually we have something similar regarding only the primary school (which is a competence of the lowest administrative level in our country, the municipality); high school is competence of the provinces or metropolitan cities and University is of competence of the State. We may have "school complex" that encompass from primary to high school, and have one single headperson that manages it all but I suppose that your "school district" is more a local agency than a complex of educational buildings. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 09:52, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Yep! Its a local agency that (depending on the state) can serve all or parts of one or more cities or en:unincorporated areas. In some states they are divisions of municipal governments. In some states they are divisions of county governments. In many states they are separate, independent agencies with their own taxation and elected boards. In Michigan the school district is separate from the municipal government, and in many places portions of a city are served by different districts. DPS (Detroit Public Schools) just happens to serve the entire city of Detroit and high school students from the city of Highland Park. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:44, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
