Names and disambiguation[edit]

Given that the move from "Cyprus" to "Republic of Cyprus" has implications for all the subcategories and that many templates are hardwired to only reflect the short name, combined with ongoing discussions about Czech Republic/Czechia and Georgia/Georgia (country), I think the move should have been discussed in COM:CFD first. Look at many WPs. There are articles for Cyprus (country) and Cyprus (island) as well as separate categories for each of them; in WPs and naturally in Wikidata also. If you do not like the name "Republic of Cprus" (that the Greek Cypriots abducted after the Bloody Christmas of 1963) you can move it to "Cyprus (country)" or "Cyprus (state)". If anyone does not like the new name (not me, I will not make objections) they can move it again. The issue is not the name; it is the separation between the island and the state that calls itself "(Republic of Cyprus)". The distinction between these two is so clear as reflected in many WPs. Anything else? --E4024 (talk) 02:50, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you wish make "Cyprus" a disam page, but Cyprus (island) and Cyprus (state) are two different things; in real life and in the WP/WD realm. Instead of obstructing anything help to construct many things. I will be open to your "naming" suggestions. Thanks. E4024 (talk) 03:46, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed I was waiting for the bot to move the pages to make "Cyprus" a disam page; but if you wish to take the initiative, be my guest. Thanks in advance. (Georgian or other remote cases have nothing to do with this simple issue, BTW. :) E4024 (talk) 03:54, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
