Doubts about copyright issues[edit]
(Note: what follows is a personal summary and not the "official" result of a debate. So please read the whole debate personally). Here can be read a discussion about the possibility that a copyright may exist on these images, which are identical casts of artworks uneligible for copyright due to age, painted with a painstakingly faithful replica of an existing (and non copyrightable for age reasons) coloring (as opposed to a creative artistic intervention that created something that did not exist before).
Nevertheless, the doubt arose because original scientific work may be eligible for copyright.
The conclusion was that, unless new data emerge that might change our minds, these images be considered copies of previously existing works and kept for now. However, the question (a rather weird one indeed) was not settled in a definitive way, therefore prudence might be advisable in republishing these images. --User:G.dallorto 22:11, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
