The question of over-categorization[edit]

WP policy is to create a category only when you have more than one picture to put in it. Here the category is used to create a list based on names. If there is only a single picture, some create the category anyway. Try as you may, you are always going to have both categories and single pictures, as there are many thousands of alumni. If you want to discuss the issue, go ahead. For myself I am happy with both categories and pictures. If the list starts to get really long we can insert the category or picture index, both of which are templates.Botteville (talk) 09:08, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The question of the confusing categorization[edit]

All graduates are alumni but not all alumni are graduates. I can't think of a more confusing basis for categorization. The introductions don't help. Let's take Admiral Arleigh Burke. He's a graduate, but he appears only in alumni. The whole thing has to be checked. The introduction has to point out that the subcats on the page are non-graduate alumni. Otherwise we have to repeat graduates under alumni! I'm going to undetake to correct all this using cat-a-lot. You can do this also if you feel so inclined, unless you have a better idea. If you do, by all means discuss. If WP dos not know who is a graduate then we have to try to find out!Botteville (talk) 08:05, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
