William Tatton Winter, RBA, (4 February 1855 - 22 March 1928) was a British watercolour and landscape artist, and member of the Royal Society of British Artists. His father was farmer William Winter, who spent time in the United States. W.T. Winter's grandmother was Mary Morris; Morris, Illinois was named after her. W.T. Winter's father, a Lancashire man, was killed in the American Civil War around 1863, and his mother was Martha Booth. The death of his father meant that W.T. Winter grew up in poverty. He attended a small local Methodist school, but left at an early age to work. However he managed to study at evening classes and at the Liverpool Academy of Arts. His employers supported him, and Ford Madox Brown (while working for Manchester Town Hall) gave him advice. His acquaintance Mr Alfred Taylor assisted him to meet John Ruskin and Holman Hunt, and to study in Belgium, Holland, France and Spain, and then to study under Verlat in Antwerp. His first exhibition for the RSBA was in 1886, and Queen Victoria bought some of his works. He exhibited in various international venues. He was a member of the British and Colonial Society of Artists in Watercolours, and he became a member of the London Sketch Club in 1902. Around 1924 he painted a 1.5 inch x 1 inch watercolour picture of the windmill on Reigate Heath for the King's Library in the Queen's Dolls House at the invitation of Princess Marie Louise. (Information source: "Death of Mr W. Tatton Winter RBA", Surrey Mirror 30 March 1928, p.8 col.6).

W.T. Winter married Edith Constance Fox Hudson (c.1864-1926) (daughter of solicitor Thomas Hudson) at Epsom in 1886, and they had five children. He died at Reigate, England, aged 73 years. He was "for many years an exhibitor at the Royal Academy, and one of the artists selected to paint the miniature pictures for the Queen's Dolls House." (Information source: "William Tatton Winter", The Scotsman 4 June 1928, p.11 col.2). Winter left his paintings of Reigate to Reigate Corporation for hanging or exhibition in civic buildings.
