There was a large Adams family of potters in 18th-19th century Staffordshire, several called William. These may not all relate to the same one. This factory, founded by William Adams (baptised 1746; died 1805), was also called (but wares not marked as) the Greengates Pottery. William Adams & Sons closed in 1820, though the factory was later used by others. See "The Adams family of Potters" at www.thepotteries.org.
