Purpose[edit]

English: This is a category for vowel charts that:
  1. Misrepresent the source, i.e. the vowels are positioned differently than on the vowel chart given in the source (EXCEPTION: when a different positioning of the vowels is caused by using a different vowel trapezium - but only as long as the original positioning of the vowels is maintained to as high an extent as possible.)
  2. Have all of the vowels placed in their cardinal positions (which is very rare in world's languages), rather than in their true positions.
  3. Are based on written description of the vowels.
  4. Have no source, as they may have been made up by editors.
  5. Have no source and are mere edited versions of vowel charts that are properly sourced.
  6. Do not show the actual positioning of the vowels. Naturally, this also includes any tables.
  7. Are vowel charts of long-dead languages, because they are by definition based on assumptions.
Vowel charts of the type 1-5 should not be used in any Wikipedia articles. If they are, please remove them (or, better, replace them with proper, sourced vowel charts). If it is possible and appropriate, it may be a good idea to remove them from Commons altogether. They should always be replaced by sourced vowel charts that accurately show the true positioning of the vowels.
