After the lower-lying parts of the city were flooded by the river Daisan (ancient name Skirtos), in 201 Abgar VIII built a winter palace on the castle hill at the south-west corner of the wall ring. The only remains of this building are the two columns with Corinthian capitals, about 15 meters high, which still tower over the ruins today. They are popularly called the Throne of Nimrod, who, according to legend, is said to have had a palace here.
