English: The Treasury of Gela was on the farthest foundation to the east, number XII on the plan, with stone flooring. Pausanias designated the "last of the treasuries" as being "right by the stadium," which would have been Stadium III, the current location. He was made certain of its identity by a dedicatory inscription of "the people of Gela." No inscription has been found yet. The treasury is the largest of the 12, due in part to the addition of a Doric portico in 491 BC, the stone of which is still arrayed on the back and sides. Roof tiles are bright red in keeping with the red roofs of Magna Graecia (Sicily, southern Italy).
