El Panecillo, Quito is a hill located in the middle west of the city at an altitude of about 3,016 metres (9,895 ft) above mean sea level is a monument to the Virgin Mary is located on top of El Panecillo and is visible from most of the Historic Center of Quito (Quito Colonial Center), the best-preserved, least altered historic centre in Latin America. The Historic Center of Quito is a a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was constructed on what was once a 16th century Inca city at an altitude of 2,850 metres in the Andes Mountains near the Equator. Quito, the capital of Ecuador at an altitude of 2,850 meteres, 9,350 feet above sea level.
