In 1942, the Office of Strategic Services created the map for a 50-inch terrestrial globe to be given to Present Franklin D. Roosevelt. General Dwight D. Eisenhower suggested that another of the globes be presented to Prime Minister Winston Churchill. They were given as 1942 Christmas gifts from the U. S. Army. The Churchill globe is at Chartwell, and FDR's is at his Presidential library. The globes were created by the Weber Costello Company, which later produced 12 to 15 copies that the company called "The President's Globe".
