English:
Tatabánya mine disaster 1950. On December 30, 1950, at 11:20 p.m. 81 miners were killed as a result of an firedamp explosion followed by a coal dust explosion in Tatabánya XII mine. The explosion of methane and coal dust has wreaked havoc. The shock wave in the main section ripped out the air doors separating the mining regions. The closing cover of the 160-meter mine/vertical shaft was pushed up, and a large amount of gas from the 550-meter-long sloping shaft spilled into the open air, and then the combustion-induced suction effect consumed oxygen throughout the mining area. Rescuers managed to recover the bodies of only 79 victims, and at least nine bodies were so badly burned that they were unidentified, Tatabánya, Komárom-Esztergom County, Hungary.
