English: Thomas Coffin Doane (1814 - 1896) is a canadian photographer born in Barrington, Nova Scotia.
« The earliest evidence for Thomas Coffin Doane appears in March 1843 when he travelled to St. John's Newfoundland with William Valentine. In March and April 1843 they took Daguerreotypes at the Golden Inn. In 1846 he established himself in Montreal where he became one of the leading Daguerreotypists including amongst his subjects Lord Elgin, John Sartain and Jeffrey Howe. In around 1865 he appears to have ceased taking photographs preferring portrait painting which he undertook in both Boston and New York. » – luminous-lint.com
