This Sun temple (Surya mandir) was built by the Chandela (Candella) dynasty. It is found between the villages of Banjari and Tikari in northeastern Madhya Pradesh, close to the Uttar Pradesh border. This was likely a large temple complex as it stands on a large platform. However, only one structure with torn sikhara and a separate pillared structure remains. The temple has a lot of damaged Shakta, Shaiva and Vaishnava artwork, and its lalitabimba has a defaced Surya on a chariot pulled by seven horses. The temple was abandoned and the site once had piles of scattered ruins all around. The extant structure has a Shiva linga inside, likely brought in after Hindus reclaimed this temple.

This Sun temple has been variously dated between 10th and 13th century.
