English: Although her body appears to be female, it is a fifth century BC Greek statue of the god Apollo with the head of a second century Roman Diana. She is identified as the goddess of the moon because of the lunar crescent on her forehead, and of the hunt as shown by the Greyhound and the quiver at her side, which were carved and attached in the late 18th century by a local sculptor.
Italiano: Antica statua di Apollo trasformata in Selene da Francesco Antonio Franzoni, che la vendette ai Musei Vaticani nel 1788. Sull'originario corpo di un Apollo inserì una testa antica di Selene (II sec. d.C.) integrandola con gli attributi di Diana Cacciatrice, divinità che con Selene è talvolta identificata: l'arco e la faretra, al posto della cetra dell'Apollo, e un levriero al posto del leogrifo ai suoi piedi.
