English: The original paintings for the stations of the Cross of St. Mel's Cathedral were destroyed in the 2009 fire. In 2014, bas-relief sculptures were set into the walls which were carved by the Cork sculptor Ken Thompson with help from his son Matthew from Bath stone panels, 55 × 46 inches wide and 3½ inches thick, with its backgrounds painted in blue, the halos gilded, and the classical Roman lettering set in terracotta. The traditional descriptive inscriptions were replaced by selected quotations from the Old or New Testament.
