The authorship of some of these windows is not entirely clear.

  • Historic England credits authorship of the stained glass of St George's Church, Jesmond, thus: "Whole of west window and figures of east window designed by John W. Brown (from Newcastle but then at Church St., Stoke Newington); other glass by C. W. Mitchell, son of the donor. 2 west aisle windows made by O'Neil Bros., London; other windows made by Gateshead Stained Glass Co."
  • The Newcastle Chronical (1888) says, "The whole of the west stained glass window and the figures in the east window were designed and executed by Mr John W. Brown of Newcastle, now of Church Street, Stoke Newington, London. The rest of the decorations in these windows were designed by Mr Spence."(Source: "St George's Church, Jesmond". Newcastle Chronicle. 13 October 1888. p. 13 col.3. Retrieved 4 April 2023 – via British Newspaper Archive))
  • St George's Church, Jesmond, a short guide, published by Durham Diocese (c.2020s), says that "The two painted windows flanking the baptistry are of St Paul and St Barnabas, and are by T.R. Spence."
