English: A servo-controlled swiveling arm uses a set of (at least) two actuator coils to move the arm horizontally and vertically. Position and movement of the arm is sensed by (at least) two sensors, for vertical and horizontal angles. The arm itself is typically a plain straight tube, looking almost like an ordinary manual or auto setup. The headshell has no cueing handle: such arm is not supposed to be handled manually.
The servo arms became feasible in the beginning the 1980s (just like the digital CD). The main proponent of servo arms was Denon. From around 1982 at least a half of their extensive production line carried the patented "servo tracer" arms. Sony made only a few such turntables, notably the PS-X600 for the European markets. The NIIDAR in the Soviet Union built the Epos-001 (1982-1986).
