The Schomburg Center was originally located in the former 135th Street branch of the New York Public Library, a Carnegie library built in 1903-05 and designed by Charles McKim of McKim, Mead & White. It is this building which is a NYC landmark and on the NRHP. The current building on Lenox Ave. (Malcolm X Blvd.) was built in 1969-80, added to in 1991, and renovated in 2007.
