English: Rosette samplers are scientific instruments for measuring water quality throughout a deep water column. They will include an array of sampling chambers, each programmed to open, and take a water sample, at a different depth, as deep bodies of water can have boundary layers separating waters of vastly different quality. These boundary layers mark where there is an abrupt change in temperature, or salinity, or perhaps other dissolved gases. These layers have sufficiently different densities that they mix very slowly.
