English: In 1901 Giovanni Piancastelli sold his collection of antique drawings and prints, collected during his Roman years, to the American sisters Sarah and Eleanor Hewitt, nephews of Peter Cooper, founder in 1897 of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. The Cooper – Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum now possesses 12,253 designs from the Piancastelli collection, of which about 1000 by Felice Giani.
